California Assemblymember Matt Haney has introduced AB 2017, a bill to designate Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha as official state holidays. If passed, public schools, community colleges, and state employees would be able to observe the holidays. Senator Wahab is a principal coauthor. California would follow Washington, which recognised both Eid holidays in April 2025. San Francisco Supervisor Bilal Mahmood has voiced support and plans to introduce an endorsing resolution at the city’s Board of Supervisors.
